What a year Skilled to Build Michigan Foundation has had. We have been fortunate to partner with some great groups and were asked to serve on two career tech advisory committees at the high school level. And that is just for starters! As we gear up for the many opportunities we have scheduled in 2017, we hope we can count of your support.

Skilled to Build Michigan Foundation is the 501 (c) (3) non-profit arm of the Home Builders Association of Michigan. Our mission is to create awareness of the good paying career opportunities within the residential construction industry. Our main focus is students and veterans. While we have been able to achieve much on little, that is not going to be the case in 2017 as we have many opportunities to be before THOUSANDS of students. We are also working on some pretty exciting opportunities in the veteran community.

We need you to invest in the residential construction industry if we are going to continue to spread the word in 2017. A strategic plan is in place and we are going to be working daily to reach out to students, veterans, employers, employees and others who have an interest in promoting, or working in, the residential construction industry. Our goal is to raise $100,000 in 2017. We are giving you the opportunity to help us build the next generation of employees.

February 2017 Opportunity – Great Lakes Builders Show (GLBS)
We need to raise $20,000 by the Great Lakes Builders Show to be successful in connecting employers with employees and raising the awareness of residential construction among the students. Another opportunity taking place at the Great Lakes Builders Show is our job fair. In 2016, we had 65 employers and 100 potential employees in attendance. We are busy promoting the job fair with employers, job seekers, and our partners. Last year 200 students attended the show. We have invited students in career tech programs around the state to attend. Skilled to Build Michigan will have a booth filled with information for students, employers and potential partners. We are in the process of updating our guidebook, which can be found at www.skilledtobuildmichigan.com under the Students page.

April 2017 Opportunity – Grand Rapids Career Quest
Our second opportunity is to reach close to 10,000 students in April at Career Quest taking place in Grand Rapids. We need to raise $35,000 to be able to get the guidebook into the hands of the students attending that event. You will be investing in the industry’s future employees.
___ $100 will allow us to print 500 guidebooks (limited to 30).

October 2017 Opportunity – Washtenaw Contractors Association Career Day
Our third opportunity will be in October when Skilled to Build Michigan will have a table at the Washtenaw Contractors Association Career Day. This event at Eastern Michigan University has students from 15 surrounding counties to learn about the opportunities available in the construction industry. They typically have 2,000 students attend, with a waiting list. We will need guidebooks and candy to hand out in October.
___ $200 will allow us to print 500 guidebooks
___ $400 will allow us to print 1,000 guidebooks
___ $100 will help us purchase the candy needed for that day
